Why Timaru Christian School?

DSC00274Timaru Christian School is a fantastic school with caring, responsible, personable and professional staff.  Why not pop in and have a talk?  We'd love to meet you and I'd encourage you to call in after school and ask our parents why they have chosen to send their children to TCS.

At Timaru Christian School our motto is 'Honouring God in all we do' and consequently we place a very high emphasis on Christian Education.  Over the past few years we have seen this assist our academic growth as a school.

We have had many exceptional results as a school academically.  From the past two years seven from the twelve year eight graduates have gone onto the 'extension' classes at their respective high schools.  This has been a fantastic achievement.

Earlier this year we were very excited with the results the school achieved in our standardised testing.  This is testing most schools complete on an annual basis to compare the academic success of their students with greater New Zealand.  The results of the testing also gives the school an opportunity to assess the strength of their programs.  In all of the reading and mathematics testing we were oversubscribed (had more students than normal) in the above average ranges and very under subscribed (had a lot less than normal) in the below average scores.  In maths none of our students had a result below average!

The one area we did not compare too well in was spelling, although we had several students score in the top 1% of scores in New Zealand.  As a result of the overall poor performance we have undertaken professional development and have completely revamped our spelling program. We look forward to next year's testing to see how successful this change has been.

As we seek to 'Honour God in all we Do' our teachers and Board of Trustees are committed to excellence in teaching and learning.  We have been very blessed as our class sizes have been able to be kept to a minimum, with all classes with between 13 and 19 students.  This has given us the ability to focus on the individual needs of each student in our classes much better than most and we are excited to complete our standardised testing next year.
